Hot rolled carbon steel sheet

Rolling indicates a procedure of lengthening or thinning slabs, blooms, and billets by passing them through various rolls and giving continuous pressures. Specifically rolling can be separated into hot rolling which involves higher temperature and cold rolling which involves lower temperature. Hot rolled carbon steel sheet is relatively thick plate of 1.6 to 6mm, and indicates the product that manufactures through hot rolling of higher than 800℃ of temperature.

Classification by materials

  • SPHC(Steel Plate Hot Commercial): This kind account for most of hot rolled carbon steel sheets or steel plates. It is represented as JIS G3131 in the JIS standard and KSD3501 in the KS standard.
  • SS400(Steel-Structure): This kind is the rolled steel sheet with the low carbon material, which is mainly used for structures.
  • Steel sheets for special purposes: There are SM series, SADH series, and SAE series.

Types and uses

For structure

Acting as the backbone of the architecture, the mechanical characteristics are very important for those to be used for structure purposes. They are sub-classified into general structure purposes and welding structure purposes. They are mainly used for building the strucure of bridges, ships and automobiles.

For automobiles

This kind of products has excellent strength and fatigue resistance. They are mainly used for the frame, wheel, and outer plate of automobiles.

For steel pipes

This kind of products is prone to welding and molding as the chemical ingredients and rolling temperature are controlled in the steelmaking and hot rolling processes. They are mainly used for general steel pipes, electronic wires, and boilers.

  • Prominent products: SPHT1/2/3, STKSTB340/410/510, etc



For high-pressure gas cylinders

The temperature in each process is controlled in the hot rolling procedure. Therefore, it has easier to be processed and the variance of material by length is minimized. They are mainly used for pressure cylinders, and gas tanks.

Steel sheet with high carbon material

The high volume of carbon material and alloy element are included. Therefore, this kind has higher strength, hardness, wear-resistance. They are mainly used for special purposes such as automobile parts, chain, blades, and mechanical tools.
